One of the most important petrochemical complexes in Europe. 1970 - Start of collaboration with leading multinationals in the petrochemical industry. 1980 - Network of branches and subsidiary marketing companies in Spain and other European countries. 1984/1987 - The petrochemical subsidiaries PETRESA and INTERQUISA become 100% CEPSA-owned. 1988 - IPIC joins shareholding body. 1990 - Elf Aquitaine joins shareholding body. 1991 - Acquisition of ERTOIL and third refinery: La Rábida. 1992 - Purchase of 25% of CAMPSA commercial assets. 1994 - Acquisition of ERTISA. Discovery of crude oil in Algeria. 1995 - First industrial plant in North America: PETRESA Canada, Inc. 1996 - Extraction of crude begins in Algeria. Sale of propane and butane to final consumers. 1997 - Complete merger of ERTOIL into CEPSA. 1998 - New butane cylinder of stainless steel, safer and with only half the weight of the traditional cylinder. 1999 - PETRESA (100% CEPSA) acquires DETEN, a Brazilian producer of linear alkylbenzene (LAB). 2000 - CEPSA, pioneer in the marketing of butane cylinders via its network of service stations. 2001 - Construction begins on second petrochemical facility in Canada: INTERQUISA Canada Inc. 2002 - MEDGAZ Project: technical feasibility of new Algerian-European gas pipeline via Spain confirmed. Second oil field in Algeria, OURHOUD, placed on stream.
